Life Today…

 

Ok. So I’m going to spoil the ending for you. Ready? I’m in the ‘drivers’ seat of my life.  And I like to zip around my days experiencing everything that life has to offer. I wake up with a hop in the morning. No alarm. Rather just ready to go. I eat foods that my body asks for, and I sleep when my body needs it.

Do I still deal with cranky days and times when I am exhausted? Of course. Are there times when I just want to eat caramel corn and skip the asparagus? Sure. However, what’s amazing is that I have the tools, the skills, and the flat out ‘know how’ to reset in a moment – literally.  However, it wasn’t always this way…

 

How Life Used to Look…

 

Over the years I have dealt with food cravings, adrenal fatigue, depression. In fact, my list may include many things that you are dealing with right now.

  • Overweight
  • Depressed and/or anxious
  • Hooked on sugar & wheat
  • Achy joints
  • Adult onset acne
  • Digestive issues
  • Lethargic and tired

I get it. I’ve been there. And I’ve seen my way through. And I’m clear that all of what I’ve had to confront over the years has been a magical combination of experiences which have put me in a position to empower others to discover that having steady energy and moods, being free from cravings, and otherwise being full of life are not only attainable, but entirely possible. Possible as in right NOW rather than that ever elusive ‘some day’ idea…

My Turning Point…

 

How did I get from what life used to look like to what it looks like now?

I learned. And studied. And began to heal my body. My mind. My heart. And quite honestly, the single most amazing turning point was when I finally began to give my brain what it had been asking for…

So, there I am. Sitting on the bench outside my back door. I’m aware that something has to change.

  • I’m so exhausted physically and emotionally, I can’t even cry.
  • I am back to eating sugar in some way shape or form nearly every day, even though I KNOW it’s not good for me. I simply can’t stop.
  • I’m struggling to wake up in the morning. AND I’m struggling to fall asleep at night. Double whammy.
  • My body aches, especially my neck and back.
  • Oh, and I’m fat. It’s like I’m carrying the weight of the world.

When I’m at the grocery store, I look at the kale and yet I buy the ice cream. For crying out loud. I ‘know’ what to eat, why am I’m not eating these foods consistently?! In fact, no matter how many books I read, classes I take, cleanses I do, I always end up coming back to that bag of potato chips or that container of almond toffee. Some version of this has been going on for over 25 years. There MUST be a way to shift things. Quickly. And safely. I KNOW my body is talking. But what IS it saying?

And in a moment, it is as though all of my years of education & research coalesce.

  • I am clear what is next. Feed – My – Brain! Quickly. Directly. It – is – hungry. And I have NOT been fueling my brain with the amount and form of nutrients that it needs. This is going to take more than simply ‘eat more protein, healthy fats, and vegetables’.
  • Direct, targeted nutrients. The brain is SUCH a high priority organ. If my brain is not getting what it needs, it will continue to ask for the next ‘best’ thing. Even if that ‘thing’ is sugar.
  • This is the missing piece. It’s the pre-foundation for all the work that I have been doing for myself and for my clients.

And so, I take action! Within 24 hours my energy has increased and my mood has lifted! To be clear, I still have the same life circumstances, yet I notice a wave of emotional and physical relief. I am thinking more clearly. I even notice I’m literally breathing more fully. And my ‘need’ for my daily sugar fix is gone. No kidding. This after decades of riding the sugar eating roller coaster. Mind boggling. I’m waking up with ease. My mind is focused. And the list goes on…

By putting in place what my brain needs,  I am free. Free of the endless reactive food choices. Free of the underlying exhaustion and fatigue. Being free feels SO good!

With a degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, a board certification in Health Coaching, and years of experience under my belt, some might say I’ve got the credentials to say ‘Hey, listen up!’. Yet I’m very clear that what makes me an asset to my clients, is less about my formal education and more about having been through it all firsthand. During my tenure with Vitamin Cottage, I supported the training and development of the staff Nutritional Health Coaches as well as partnered with the Executive Vice President and Nutrition Program Manager to develop cutting edge nutrition education materials and trainings to support the ongoing nutrition education needs of hundreds of thousands of customers, both nationally and internationally.
